We are looking into the possibility of using videos of animals moving in front of camera traps to measure their movement speed.  By measuring the exact path an animal moves, and recording the time it take it to do that, we think we can obtain precise measures of the speed that animals move at.  This, in turn, might be used to calibrate ‘gas model‘ estimates of animal density.

An example of our approach is at the end of this video, where Bart measures the path moved by a peccary.
